New Study - Daily Multivitamins Significantly Boost Immune System

Middle-aged adults who take a daily multivitamin with trace minerals may improve immune function, according to a new study in Nutrition Research. While taking a similar multi-nutrient formula has been shown to boost immunity in individuals 65 years and older, this new trial demonstrates that daily use of such a formula produces comparable effects in adults between 50 and 65 years old. In addition to improving immune function, the supplement also corrected nutritional deficiencies in the participants, which are common to people in this age group.

This year-long controlled study examined 44 healthy men and women assigned to receive either a daily multi-nutrient formula or a placebo. Nutrient levels and markers of immune function were assessed through blood samples at the beginning of the study, and again at 6 and 12 months. For the duration of the study, participants were contacted every two weeks to learn whether they were experiencing new illnesses or infections. Immune response was also measured by blood tests taken 12 weeks after a flu vaccine was administered

In the group taking the daily multi-nutrient formula, there was a significant increase in cells and chemicals that play a role in immune function, compared with the same markers in those taking the placebo. The antibody response to the flu vaccine was 56% higher in the treatment group than in the placebo group, a statistically significant difference.

Compared with individuals taking the placebo, those taking the multi-nutrient supplement had 53% fewer days of illness due to infection. This effect was more pronounced in the second half of the trial, suggesting that it may take at least 6 months of regular use to receive the full benefit of the multi-nutrient compound.

The researchers also found that 43% of all participants were deficient in one or more nutrients at the beginning of the study. By the end of the trial, the nutritional deficit in all but one person taking the multi-nutrient formula had been resolved, while the nutritional status of malnourished participants in the placebo group did not improve. A bigger improvement in immunity was seen in those with initial nutritional deficiencies than in those with initially normal nutrient levels.

Malnutrition has been linked with poor immune status in all age groups and is a significant factor in the development of various infections, especially in older adults. The results of this study suggest that daily use of a multivitamin with trace minerals improves immunity in both healthy and malnourished individuals and that impaired immune function may be improved in as little as six months. This intervention offers a safe, cost-effective approach to preventing disease in middle-aged, as well as elderly adults, which may ultimately lead to fewer physician office and hospital visits and a better quality of life.

What our customers say about The Kitchen Sink

Fatigue, Lack of Energy & Indigestion

The Kitchen Sink and Coral Calcium were recommended to me by a friend about
six months ago. I was complaining of a high level of fatigue, lack of energy and
bad cases of indigestion. At the beginning I really did not believe that a few pills of Vitamins and Coral Calcium would have a real positive effect on me. My friend, who has been using them for sometime, decided to pack couple of bottles in a box and mailed them to me.

Since the bottles have arrived, I started taking the pills and really monitoring if I could detect any effects. After couple of weeks, I started feeling the urge to go back to the gym. I started exercising. I haven't done that for at least couple of years. I took my wife and convinced her to join the gym with me. I started jogging and doing weights. This was 8 moths ago, now I am running the Marathon, or I better qualify that, I am finishing the Marathon, at my own pace.

Improved Vitality & Zest for Life

As a healthy, fit 42 year old man, I was not expecting noticeable results from the Kitchen Sink, but I was wrong! Within days of starting on it, I noticed improved vitality, zest for life, and energy. Although libido, has never been a problem for me, it has improved dramatically too. I would go so far as to say that the Kitchen Sink is like a natural Viagra! Thank you for this life-enhancing product.

  Calcium Build Up in Hip

I have serious calcium built up in my hip for over 20 years now. My wife got me some TrueBlue Coral Calcium and I was taking 2 capsules a day. After about 3 weeks I noticed my pain at my hip is going away for the first time. Last month I ran out of TrueBlue Capsules for about a week and the pain came back. I will make sure that I don't run out next time and thank you for such a great product.

  From Wheelchair to a Cane

“I’m a calcium freak!” I consume my TrueBlue Coral Calcium Powder with Minute Maid Lime-ade as my drink all day. It has taken away my cravings for ice cream and I’ve lost 25 lbs in a month. I feel great for 55! When I was heavier, I used to be in a wheelchair, then I went to two canes, and now I’m up to one cane. But soon I won’t need that anymore either. “I swear by it”

  Tendonitis In Knees

I have been using Coral Calcium for almost three months now. I had acute Tendonitis in my knees from running and it wouldn't go away. No amount of rest, Advil, more rest, and cortisone shots would alleviate the pain. I had to curtail my running and wear a spandex knee brace to run. After taking Coral Calcium, the Tendonitis was gone in one month. I can run again pain free and no spandex knee wrap.

  Q&A

  Q
What happened to RDAs for vitamins and minerals? Now I read about DRIs and Daily Values instead.
A The government's RDAs (Recommended Dietary Allowances) are still used by scientists and nutritionists. But they're now part of a larger set of guidelines called the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs), which have been devised for 17 vitamins and minerals, plus beta carotene and other carotenoids.

The new guidelines were developed by the U.S. and Canada to help decrease the risk of chronic diseases such as osteoporosis, cancer, and heart disease.

The other set of terms are called Daily Values (DVs), used on nutrition labels on foods (and supplements). The labels tell you what "% Daily Value" a serving supplies of various nutrients in a 2,000-calorie daily diet. DVs are based on RDIs (Reference Daily Intakes) and DRVs (Daily Reference Values). Fortunately, these last two abbreviations do not appear on the labels.

Words to the wise: These maddeningly similar-sounding terms and abbreviations have left even many nutrition experts scratching their heads. What really matters is that you get the optimal amount of each vitamin for your health as we offer in The Kitchen Sink formula.

Q Can I drink too much water?
A Drinking too much water is almost never a worry. The body does a good job of regulating fluid intake and output. If you follow the eight-glasses-a-day "rule," you're drinking half a gallon of water or other fluids. It is safe to drink a gallon a day. You probably shouldn't exceed two gallons.

A rare problem called water intoxication can occur in marathon runners and other endurance athletes, military personnel who work out strenuously in hot weather, or even people dancing at all-night parties. Caused by loss of sodium from sweating during strenuous exertion, combined with over-consumption of water, water intoxication can produce nausea, fatigue, and stupor, and in extreme cases, seizures and even death.

Don't worry about drinking too much water. The bigger concern is drinking too little fluid when exercising strenuously.
